The purpose of our book is to encourage more people to read Ulysses.We are highlighting 20 female characters in Sirens in Bloom, re-enacting scenes in a modern Ireland. It is 100 years since its first publication, so what better time to read or revisit it???
- To mark the 100th anniversary of the publication of James Joyce’s Ulysses, Súileir and The James Joyce Centre invited the Dublin photographer, Tom Lawlor to re-visit the novel and see if he could find parallels with contemporary Dublin. We were very pleased and surprised when the assignment yielded a bouquet of exceptional pictures portraying the women in Ulysses with an original and distinctive interpretation.
- The collection ‘Sirens in Bloom’ has produced an exhibition and a photographic book, which Súileir is proud to exhibit and publish. As founder and CEO of Súileir, I am pleased to present this unique and exclusive work for your enjoyment.

About The Photographer
Tom Lawlor

An Irish photographer with an international reputation, Tom worked as a photojournalist with the Irish Times for 17 years. His commissions included assignments in Northern Ireland, the USSR, India, Bangladesh, Africa, Greenland, China and Thailand.

His publications include: Dublin – One in a Thousand, Tom Lawlor at the Gate and Ways of Knowing.

Tom has received many awards for his work including Photographer of the Year 1982. In 2008, he was presented with honorary life membership of the Irish Professional Photographers Association in recognition of his contribution to photography.

Fulfilling his love of Jame’s Joyce’s Ulysses, ‘Sirens in Bloom’ is his response to the centenary anniversary of the publication.
